In August 1232, Gojong moved the capital of Goryeo from Songdo to the island of Ganghwa and started the construction of significant defenses there, in order to better defend from the Mongol threat.
Taejo was born in 877 and was a descendant of a merchant family at Songdo (present-day Kaesŏng), who controlled trade on the Yeseong River.
As Hwang Jin-i was known as one of the three wonders of Songdo, Mae-chang was known as one of the three wonders of Byeoksan.
