The Third Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1957–59) was led by Yevgeny Tolstikov on the continent; the marine expedition on the Ob was led by I V Maksimov.

Cape Markov

It was named by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition, 1961–62, for K.K. Markov, professor of geography at Moscow State University, and the author of a number of reports on Antarctica.

It was remapped by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition, 1960–61, and named after the German revolutionary Karl Liebknecht.

Luna-Devyat' Mountain

Mount Kibal'chich

New Year Nunatak

So named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) because the nunatak was visited by a geological party of the Soviet Antarctic Expedition on New Year's Day of 1966.
