Sherwin succeeded Peter Bryant as producer of the programme in 1969, overseeing the production of The War Games and Spearhead from Space.
He was a regular cast member of the first season of science fiction series Space: 1999 as Paul Morrow, and also appeared in a number of Doctor Who stories throughout the 1970s - Spearhead from Space and Planet of the Daleks with Jon Pertwee and Planet of Evil and The Ribos Operation with Tom Baker.
This was only the second serial in the history of Doctor Who (the first being 1970's Spearhead from Space) to be shot entirely on location, in this case at Hound Tor on Dartmoor.
