Jois' grandson R. Sharath Jois teamed with billionaire hedge fund investor Paul Tudor Jones' wife, Greenwich, Connecticut-based Sonia Klein Jones, to create Jois Yoga in honor of Krishna Pattabhi Jois.
In 1997, he traveled to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and asked for permission to teach Series I and II, which was the custom of the time, prior to current certifications.
Some of Krishnamacharya's students include many of yoga’s most renowned teachers: his son T. K. V. Desikachar (b. 1938), Indra Devi (1900-2002), his brother-in-law B. K. S. Iyengar (b. 1918), K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009), and A. G. Mohan (b. 1945).
