Battle of Vijithapura

The battle is still regarded by Sri Lankans as a legendary event in the country's history, and has even been compared with victories of the Sri Lanka Army during the country's civil war.

After the ending of the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009, General Sarath Fonseka, the then commander of the Sri Lanka Army, compared several battles they fought to that of Vijithapura.

Internally displaced person

Sri Lanka has 250,000 - 300,000 IDPs, mostly in the Northern parts of the country especially in Vavuniya, due to the fighting between LTTE and Sri Lanka Army.

On 18 July 1996 the Sri Lanka Army Military base at Mullaitivu came under heavy attack by LTTE, following this a rescue operation code named Operation Thrivida Pahara was launched to relieve the besieged base by landing troops by both air and sea.

A.P.N.C. De S. Vaas Gunawardene

Educated at Ananda College, Colombo, Vaas Gunawardene joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1980 as an Officer cadet and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

The documentary covers the period from September 2008 until the end of the war in 2009 in which thousands of Tamil people were killed by shelling and extrajudicial executions by the Sri Lankan Army including Balachandran Prabhakaran, the 12-year-old son of the slain Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.

Security Forces Headquarters – Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) is a regional command of the Sri Lanka Army, that is responsible for the operational deployment and command all army units stationed in Kilinochchi District, this includes several divisions and the independent brigades.

Kokavil

In 11 July 1990 Sri Lanka Army lost the Kokavil Army camp which guarded Rupavahini relay tower and Captain Saliya Upul Aladeniya sacrificed his life and been awarded the highest spirit in combat, the gallantry medal "Parama Weera Vibhushanaya" (PWV) for his fight against Tiger terrorists valiantly without reinforcements until his camp was destroyed by the terrorists.
