Act of Mediation

Two of the new cantons (St Gallen and Graubünden or Grisons) were formerly "associates", while the four others were made up of subject lands (i.e. controlled by other cantons) that had been conquered at different times — Aargau (1415), Thurgau (1460), Ticino (1440, 1500, 1512), and Vaud (1536).

Old Irish

Important Continental collections of glosses from the 8th and 9th century include the Würzburg Glosses (mainly) on the Pauline Epistles, the Milan Glosses on a commentary to the Psalms and the St Gall Glosses on Priscian's Grammar.

This occurred primarily because of the pioneering efforts of industrialist Franz Saurer, who move his foundry from St. Gallen to Arbon in 1863.

Cuno Pümpin

Since the 1970s Pümpin has been a well-known lecturer at international congresses and seminars such as the World Economic Forum, and the ISC in St. Gallen, and also Management Center Europe, which is now a part of the American Management Association.

Eggersriet

The municipality was located in the Rorschach district, but since 2001 has been part of the St. Gallen Wahlkreis. It is located on the southern slope of the Rorschacherberg and along the Heiden-St. Gallen road.

Ferdinand A. Brader

Ferdinand Brader was born in Kaltbrunn, St. Gallen, Switzerland, the son of Johann Baptist Brader and Anna Maria Steiner.

Lindenhof hill

In August 1526, guests coming from St. Gallen were invited by the city councils and all the Guilds of Zurich for a dinner, among them the prominent Zurich cleric, as Ulrich Zwingli, Leo Jud, Konrad Pelikan, Friedrich Myconius and the Kappel abbey's abbot.

Otto Henne am Rhyn

After studying philosophy and history in Bern and Geneva, he became a teacher at a school in St. Gallen in 1857.

He is a Swiss citizen and a graduate of the University of St. Gallen (1981, doctorate 1984) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1989).

St. Gallen District

In the former district of St. Gallen (now Wahlkreis St. Gallen), they do but five more municipalities were included: Andwil, Eggersriet, Gaiserwald, Gossau and Waldkirch.

Under the influence of the French revolution of July 1830, people of the canton of St. Gallen forced a new, more liberal constitution, its third since its installation by Napoleon's (act of mediation) in 1803.

Stein, Appenzell

The Appenzeller Volkskunde-Museum, Eisensteg Zweibruggen (shared with St Gallen), Gmündertobel Bridge (with Teufen), Urnäschbrücke im Kubel (bridge shared with Herisau) and the Wattbach Bridge (shared with Teufen and St Gallen) are listed as heritage sites of national significance.

In February 2001 the band recorded their first demo CD in Stuttgart, Germany which was supported by shows at Rock am See, the Montreux Jazz Festival, St. Gallen Open Air and a support act with grunge band Bush.
