Edward Darcy

Sir Edward Darcy, Darcey or Darsey (1543/1544 – 28 October 1612) of Stainforth, East Riding of Yorkshire, was an English politician and courtier.

Keighley and Kendal Turnpike

It proved unprofitable as it was easily avoided by using Kendalman’s Ford or an alternative route by Stainforth or Helwith Bridge and was removed in 1778.

Stainforth, South Yorkshire

The town briefly thrived as a commercial centre and port and attracted traders from as far afield as the Isle of Axholme, but the market soon slumped as Bawtry grew in importance.


Hatfield and Stainforth railway station

The original station, known until the 1990s as "Stainforth and Hatfield" and was built in 1866 as a replacement for the South Yorkshire Railway's Stainforth when their line was brought to its present alignment.

Robert Masterman Stainforth

Upon graduation he was offered a position as a paleontologist at Pointe-à-Pierre in Trinidad working for Trinidad Leaseholds Ltd. Those working at the laboratory, including Stainforth, had a great influence on the study of stratigraphy in the years that followed.
