The work was written in Italian in 1605-1607, shortly after Campanella's release from imprisonment after being accused of leading a conspiracy against the Spanish rule in his hometown of Stilo.
At 10 km from the city is the promontory of Cape Stilo, where in 1940 the Battle of Punta Stilo was fought by the Italian and British Navies.
The first reference to the Norman castle at Stilo is from May 7, 1093 in a concession act of Comte Roger to Saint Bruno: "elegerunt itaque quondam solitudinis locum inter locum qui dicitur Arena et oppidum quod appelatur Stilum".
Crooked Stilo has worked and performed with artists such as P. Diddy, Daddy Yankee ("Salud y Vida" from the 2004 multi-platinum album "Barrio Fino"), Don Chezina, Dyablo, and others.
The Stilo was the first car worldwide to use the TRW Column-Drive Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPS) technology later introduced on the 2003 Nissan Micra & Renault Megane.
The Stilaro (in antiquity the Elleporus; in Calabrian dialect Stilaru) is an Italian river, which runs through Bivongi, Pazzano and Stilo in the Province of Reggio Calabria, Calabria and, along with the river, gives its name to the Vallata dello Stilaro Allaro, the valley through which it flows.
The album cover depicts the Cattolica di Stilo which is a church in Italy, but the background is the town of San Miguel de Allende Mexico and the statue in front of the Cattolica di Stilo is in San Miguel de Allende.
