In his first appearance, in Manhunt, Frobisher appears to going through his Mid-life crisis; after a phone call from Geiger, one of the worst felons he had ever brought in years earlier, Frobisher flees to Chicago, running from both his pursuer, Geiger, and from the legend he was from years ago.
The expression seems to have been first been used by Dr. Fredric Wertham in his 1954 book Seduction of the Innocent and his testimony before the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency.
