The core of the 1,200-work collection is art from 1960 to the present, including important works by Ellsworth Kelly, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Susan Rothenberg, Barbara Kruger, and Matthew Barney.
Schuler’s early work has been compared to that of Jean Dubufet and Willem de Kooning, though her style is also influenced by modern expressionists, such as Susan Rothenberg, Michel Nedjar, and Maryann Kolb.
Recent exhibitions include a retrospective organized by Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo (1992–1994), which traveled to Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Chicago, and Seattle (1992); a retrospective at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Monterrey, Mexico (1996); a survey of prints and drawings presented by the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University (1998); and Susan Rothenberg: Paintings from the Nineties at The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (1999).
Brown shared billing on "Silent Night, Bloody Night" with many actors from Warhol's "Factory" years: Mary Woronov, Ondine, Candy Darling, Kristen Steen, Lewis Love, director Jack Smith, and artist Susan Rothenberg.
