A61 road

South of Alfreton, the A61 merges with the dual carriageway A38, but the old A61 continues as the B6179 through Swanwick and Denby, meeting the A38 again just north of the City.

Christadelphian Isolation League

In the UK the biggest of these events takes place once every four years in Birmingham, England and there are two annual events - the first, a weekend long event for young people at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire and the other an 11+ week long equivalent at Ringsfield Hall, Beccles, Suffolk (although this does not include dominantly young people in isolation, it gives primarity to them and acts in the CIL's name, run by the Youth Superintendent of CIL.

RAF Prestwick

RAF Prestwick closed on 7 December 2013, with personnel transferring to the RAF's 'London Military' facilities at the NATS owned London Area Control Centre, Swanwick, Hampshire.

Swanwick, Derbyshire

Franz von Werra, a Luftwaffe officer, escaped from here; he was recaptured at nearby RAF Hucknall, while trying to steal an aircraft.

The Woods succeeded the Turners as owners of most of the local mineral rights, and Hugo Wood later moved into the newer Hall with his family; a painting of his children, by Joseph Wright of Derby, used to hang in its dining room.

A film entitled The One That Got Away, and starring Hardy Krüger, was made of his exploits.

At the Swanwick Conference in England in 1949 - as the United Nations was settling its Universal Declaration of Human Rights - the IU published a principle and policy pamphlet that later came to be known as its Declaration of Human Rights on Equal Freedom.

The area houses Bursledon Brickworks and Swanwick has become particularly popular with visitors, because the river and its landmarks are where many of the scenes for the former television series Howards' Way were filmed.

Sir Oswald Mosley, 4th Baronet

Mosley was born in Staffordshire in 1848 the eldest son of Sir Tonman Mosley, 3rd Baronet, of Ancoats (9 July 1813 – 28 April 1890), who succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Mosley, of Ancoats, on 24 May 1871, and wife Catherine Wood (died 22 April 1891), daughter of The Reverend John Wood of Swanwick, Derbyshire.
