The Flying Instruction School, or simply known as FIS was formed here in 1948 but was resituated to Tambaram near Chennai in 1954.
With the completion of track-lying work of the Chennai Beach–Tambaram section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network in March 1931, which began in 1928, the suburban services were started on 11 May 1931 between Beach and Tambaram, and the tracks were electrified on 15 November 1931, with the first MG EMU services running on 1.5 kV DC.
It is a major railway ticket-booking centre after Moore Market Complex and Tambaram.
Bus services are there to Poonamallee (62), Avadi (62), Koyambedu, Vallalar Nagar (M248), Vandalur, Broadway, Tambaram (170L) and few private buses to Kanchipuram and Redhills.
The State Training Centre of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, earlier at Mint area in North Chennai, was shifted to its present location, Tambaram in the year 2000.
TNHB has created self-sustaining townships in late 1970s and early 1980s like Anna Nagar, Besant Nagar, KK Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Tambaram, Thirumullaivoyal and Shastri Nagar.
The port is served by the Chennai Beach railway terminus in the Chennai Suburban Railway Network of the Southern Railway, chiefly handling suburban trains on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network.
He studied at Madras Christian College in Tambaram, later joining the Madras Medical College and receiving his MBBS degree in 1952.He got his FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1957 and FRCS (England) in1958.
