On January 1, 2006, Tano, along with the town of Sadowara (also from Miyazaki District), and the town of Takaoka (from Higashimorokata District), was merged into the expanded city of Miyazaki and no longer exists as an independent municipality.

Various peoples, known and unknown, inhabited the area, including the Tano (Arizona Tewa), East Rio Grande Keresan, Pecos, and Tewa.
The cast included Hoon, Welly Yang, Brandon Kuwada, Doan Mackenzie, Alex Lee Tano, Michael K. Lee, Lea Salonga, Rona Figueroa, Cindy Cheung, Julie Danao, Joan Almedilla, and Sharon Leal.
