Black River Entertainment started in early 2010 by Nashville session musician Jimmy Nichols (James Ginnetti), his wife Tonya Cochran Ginnetti, and Pennsylvania-based oil magnates Terry and Kim Pegula.
On November 30, Ken Campbell of The Hockey News reported a story that billionaire Terrence Pegula had signed a letter of intent to purchase the Sabres from Golisano for US$150 million.
In June 2011, the Americans and Knighthawks were split up when Terrence Pegula purchased the Americans; because Pegula also owns the rival Buffalo Bandits, he was ineligible to purchase the Knighthawks, which leaves the team in Styres's hands.
To promote the single, Black River Music Group arranged for Darling to sing the national anthem for a Buffalo Sabres game in place of usual singer Doug Allen; the Sabres and Black River are both owned by Terrence Pegula.
He remained with the team through 2011, when the team was sold to Terrence Pegula and the Americans' front office was integrated into that of the Sabres'.
Pegula founded East Resources, a natural gas drilling company that profited heavily upon the discovery of deep layers of natural gas in the Marcellus Formation and the development of the hydraulic fracturing process to recover said gas.

In 2012 he won a bid for the development rights to the Webster Block on Buffalo's waterfront.
