In 1988, he co-produced (with Jon Langford) a Johnny Cash tribute album, Til Things are Brighter, to raise funds for the Terrence Higgins Trust.
All profits from the sale of this release were donated to the AIDS charity the Terrence Higgins Trust.

In his memory, Martyn Butler (born 1954), Tony Calvert (born 1956), and Terrence Higgins' boyfriend Rupert Whitaker (born 1963) set up The Terry Higgins Trust (later renamed the Terrence Higgins Trust), dedicated to preventing the spread and promoting awareness of the disease.
