Biffo the Bear

More recently Biffo was seen in a four-part special leading a group of retired characters, Pansy Potter, Keyhole Kate and Desert Island Dick, to return The Beano to an earlier form (specifically, the 1960s, the logo from that era was used in the story).

Joe Jitsu

One Joe Jitsu was the title character in a comic strip in the UK comic The Beano, and was voted into the comic by Beano readers in early 2004, along with Colin the Vet.

Johnny Bean from Happy Bunny Green

(Tales of) Johnny Bean from Happy Bunny Green was a comic strip in the comic The Beano.

The Angry Mob

The single came with special artwork created by Dandy/Beano artist Nigel Parkinson, and features caricatures of the band with various Beano characters.

The Beano

In the 2004 competition, the margin between winner Joe Jitsu and runner-up Colin the Vet was 1%, so both strips were added to the comic.

Since the 75th Anniversary Special revamp, The Beano has now gained Andy Fanton, Stephen Waller, Dean Rankine, Garry Davies and Rick Eades all from The Dandy and the only original Beano artists that remain in the comic are David Sutherland, Laura Howell and Nigel Parkinson since Barrie Appleby, Barry Glennard, Hunt Emerson and Dave Eastbury all appear to have gone.

As a celebration, in partnership with the CLIC Sargent charity, 2 August 2008 was Gnashional Menace Day, where children were sponsored to behave like Dennis.


Laura Howell

She is the first female artist in the history of The Beano comic, and responsible for "Johnny Bean from Happy Bunny Green", "Les Pretend" and Beano Manga.

Leo Baxendale

Leo Baxendale (born 27 October 1930 in Whittle-le-Woods, Lancashire) is a British cartoonist, who was the creator of the classic Beano strips Little Plum (1953), Minnie the Minx (1953), The Bash Street Kids (created October 1953, began publication February 1954) and The Three Bears (1959).

Pirates of the Caribeano

Pirates of the Caribeano was a comic strip drawn by Barry Appleby which appeared in the British children's comic, The Beano between September 2006 and January 2009.

Skookum Skool

The strip was drawn by Ken H. Harrison featured a class of six (later five) mischievous pupils similar in theme to The Beano comic strip The Bash Street Kids.

Strange Hill

The Dandy version was a very "safe" version of Hammer Horror clichés, similar to Number 13 in The Beano or the US TV series The Munsters.

The strip, drawn by Wayne Thompson, who was also the artist for The Beanos Billy Whizz and Jak in The Dandy, was about a boy who had a black belt in Karate.
