unusual facts about The Belle of New York

The Belle of New York

I Wanna Be A Dancin' Man: Astaire's second solo routine is a song and sand-dance (only his second sand-dance on film, the other being the No Strings number in Top Hat), and one which - by running separate takes side by side in split screen - has been used in That's Entertainment, Part III to illustrate the extreme precision of Astaire's dance technique.

Ann George

She was born in Smethwick, and entered show business as a singer appearing in musicals such as The Belle of New York and The Desert Song and featured in the Gilbert and Sullivan show D'Oyly Carte.

The Whirl of New York

It was an expanded and substantially re-worked version of The Belle of New York (1897, music by Gustave Kerker with book and lyrics by Hugh Morton).
