Though the line-up changed several times, at one point the band comprised a kind of college rock/indie-rock/power-pop supergroup, including as it did Peter Holsapple of the dB's, Mark Walton of The Dream Syndicate, Bangle Vicki Peterson and Susan Cowsill of The Cowsills.

Records bought Slash, they took over distribution of Ruby's three most popular albums (The Gun Club's Fire of Love, The Misfits' Walk Among Us, The Dream Syndicate's The Days of Wine and Roses) and deleted the others (which included releases by The Flesh Eaters, Blurt and Lydia Lunch).
Green on Red followed the Dream Syndicate onto Slash Records, which released the album Gravity Talks in the fall of 1983.
