Cubberley was the scene of the Third Wave experiment by teacher Ron Jones, which was later portrayed in a film and TV special.
The events of the experiment were adapted into a 1981 TV special, The Wave, and a young-adult novelization by Todd Strasser, who used the pen name Morton Rhue to write it.
