He ceased to itinerate in 1834, being appointed house governor of the new Theological Institution opened at Hoxton for the education and training of young ministers.
The university in its current form was founded in 1970, and is the successor to the University of Dillingen, located in Dillingen an der Donau, and which was existed between 1551 and 1802 and was a philosophical and theological institution under the bishops of Augsburg.
He was lecturer in Bucknell University, 1900–07; trustee of Newton Theological Institution (now the Andover Newton Theological School), 1894-02; and of the Crozer Theological Seminary, 1901–08; President of the American Baptist Historical Society, 1900-07.
Established in 1971 by James R. Cook and J. William Cook, the school grew out of the International Baptist Church of Honolulu and Western Seminary, a theological institution in Portland, Oregon.
He annually subscribed money to assist in defraying the current expenses of Hamilton Literary and Theological Institution (later Madison University and Theological Seminary); and he was among the most strenuous opponents of their removal to the city of Rochester.
