He started learning Sanskrit in the traditional way before joining primary school and was associated with the working class political movement early in his life.He published his first book-the Malayalam translation of a poem by Oliver Goldsmith- while in school.
They include Kambisseri Karunakaran (who was editor for the longest period and shaped the weekly into its popular form), a theatre personality and humorist, Vaikom Chandrasekharan Nair, a novelist, playwright and orator, Thirunalloor Karunakaran, a revolutionary, poet and scholar, Malayattoor Ramakrishnan, a novelist and cartoonist, and Kaniyapuram Ramachandran, a playwright and orator.
William Shakespeare's Othello, Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, Kumaran Asan's Karuna, Vallathol Narayana Menon’s Magdalana Mariyam, Changampuzha Krishna Pillai's Ramanan, Thirunalloor Karunakaran's Rani and Vayalar Ramavarma's Aaayisha were some of the literary classics thus successfully adapted for Kadhaprasangam.
