4 unusual facts about Tokyo Station

Fukaya Station

The building is a miniature of the Marunouchi station building of Tokyo Station, with its brick built by Japan Brick Company.

Mitsubishi Estate

Its largest concentration of assets is around the Marunouchi and Otemachi districts west of Tokyo Station, an area purchased by the zaibatsu from the Meiji government in 1890 and developed into an office district.

Street

Rather, vertical segregation is applied on a piecemeal basis, as in sewers, utility poles, depressed highways, elevated railways, common utility ducts, the extensive complex of underground malls surrounding Tokyo Station and the Ōtemachi subway station, the elevated pedestrian skyway networks of Minneapolis and Calgary, the underground cities of Atlanta and Montreal, and the multilevel streets in Chicago.

Tokyo Station

The surrounding area converted into a broad plaza extending into a walkway toward the Imperial Palace, with space for bus and taxi ranks.

N700 Series Shinkansen

The N700 is also used on select Hikari services during the day, as well as some early-morning and late-night Kodama runs between Tokyo and Mishima/Hamamatsu.

Senseki Line

At Sendai Station, the line crosses under the Tōhoku Main Line and its platforms, similar to the situation with the Keiyō Line in Tokyo and the Chikuhi Line in Hakata (which connects via the Fukuoka Airport Subway Line).

Tōkai region

JR Central operates the Tōkaidō Main Line between Atami and Maibara stations, as well as the Tōkaidō Shinkansen high speed line between Tokyo and Shin-Ōsaka, and many conventional lines joining with the Tōkaidō Main Line.
