Tokyo Yakult Swallows player-manager Atsuya Furuta invited Kida to play in Japan, and he joined the team in the 2005 off-season.
His elder brother Masaya is also a professional baseball player currently playing for Tokyo Yakult Swallows.
There, he was surrounded by an impressive collection of talent: his year included then-right fielder Norichika Aoki (Tokyo Yakult Swallows), third baseman Toshimitsu Higa (Hiroshima Carp) and center fielder Shintaro Yoshida (Orix Buffaloes), all three of whom would later go on to the pros.
He currently works as a batting coach under Tokyo Yakult Swallows manager Junji Ogawa.
