In the 1976-77 season he was top scorer for the club with 25 goals in all competitions and formed a fine attacking partnership with Tommy Tynan, between them they netted 40 goals that season.
Tynan scored both goals in the away leg against Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany, the equalising goal being in the 90th minute but Newport lost the home leg 1–0.
