Truckee Meadows Fire Department was the first emergency response department to arrive at the scene of the crash.

In 1850, James Beckwourth discovered Beckwourth Pass and developed his Beckwourth Trail from Truckee Meadows (what is now known as Sparks, Nevada) through the pass into California and on to Marysville.
It was deemed significant as the first educational institution in the "Truckee Meadows" area, where, in 1857, Charles C. Gates and John F. Stone created a rope ferry across the Truckee River and opened a trading post, leading to further development.
