Triumph V8

Saab tested the V8 in the Saab 99 mainly for US markets but the oil crisis in 1973 finally caused cancellation of the project in favour of turbocharging.

Twincharger

Additionally, the energy cost to drive a supercharger is higher than that of a turbocharger; if it is bypassed, the load of performing compression is removed, leaving only slight parasitic losses from spinning the working parts of the supercharger.

Variable-geometry turbocharger

Several companies supply the rotating vane type of variable-geometry turbocharger, including Garrett (Honeywell), Borg Warner, and MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries).
