It is associated with the world famous singer and saint Tyagaraja and is one of the most important music festivals in India.

Vaidyanathan made a special appearance in the 2005 Tamil movie Anniyan directed by Shankar, on the Tyagaraja Aradhana festival sequence for the song Iyengaaru Veetu which is a recreation of the real festival.
On 3 February 2013, she led and accompanied Nithyasree Mahadevan on Nithyasree's return-to-stage performance (after a traumatic period in Nithyasree's personal life) at the TTK auditorium of The Music Academy, Chennai, to observe Tyagaraja aradhana.
