The city is one of the most important of region and has a privileged geographic location where there are different types of agriculture and it has a campus of UNESP, that offers the courses of Languages, History, Psychology, Biology and Biotechnological Engineer.
The PUC-SP is the 4th power of Brazil (behind the USP, UNIFESP and Santa Casa) with the largest number of alumni in today's clinical Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (over UNESP, Campinas, USP-Ribeirão), 27 are graduates of the PUC-Sorocaba (5% of 534 physicians HIAE).
Rio Claro hosts one public university, UNESP, offering courses in Geology, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Physical Education, Ecology, Biology and Pedagogy (teacher training).
