Estonia–India relations

Apart from these many Indian students and researchers are working currently in University of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology.

The first person from Estonia to visit India at the end of the 17th century was the cleric Eberhard Eckhold (Eckholz) who was born in Tallinn and had studied in the Academia Gustaviana of Tartu.

Sanskrit language publications were printed at the University of Tartu and from 1837, Sanskrit teaching classes commenced, taught by professor Karl Friedrich Keil.

In a collaboration with Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology, CCMB, Hyderabad, India, Estonian Biocentre and University of Tartu has published dozens of papers on origin and migrations of South Asian populations.

Harald Riipalu

From 1932 to 1933, Riipalu studied at the Faculty of Law of University of Tartu.

Ilse Lehiste

In 1942 she began her studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Tartu.

From 1904 to 1909 he studied theology at the Imperial University Yuriev in Dorpat.

Jaan Einasto

Born in Tartu, he attended the University of Tartu, where he received the Ph.D. equivalent in 1955 and a senior research doctorate in 1972.

Nicolae Frolov

Born in Corneşti, Ungheni, Bessarabia, he graduated from Chișinău Theological Seminary and then went to Estonia where in 1904 he graduated from the University of Dorpat (now Tartu).

Olev Olesk

From 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation, he studied at the Tartu University's Faculty of Law, also being a member of the Estonian Students' Society.

Peeter Põld

As curator of the University of Tartu (1918–1925), he oversaw the university's transition to the Estonian language in the newly independent country.

Voronezh State University

The university was founded in 1918, when some staff, students and property from the University of Tartu were transferred by the Soviet government because of the German occupation of Estonia.
