Konstanz station is served by the Upper Rhine Railway running west to Singen with connections to all parts of Germany, and the Etzwilen–Konstanz line running south into Switzerland, connecting to major routes at Weinfelden.
Radolfzell is a well known health care city (Mettnau) and an important railway junction of the Upper Rhine Railway and the Hegau-Ablach Valley Railway (leading to the Bodenseegürtel Railway).
To make this possible, the Erzingen–Beringen section will be duplicated and five level crossings will be replaced by underpasses by 2013.
