After another refit at Uraga, Japan, between 20 September 1953 and 2 March 1954, she sailed for Toulon where she was placed in reserve in January 1955.
In 1720, the shogunate established the post of Uraga bugyō, whose responsibility was to police traffic and to organize coastal defenses, and the entrances to the harbor were fortified with cannon again possible incursions by foreign ships in violation of Japan’s national isolation policy.

Cannon were fired from the hilltops of the Miura Peninsula as soon as the ship approached Uraga, in compliance with the 1825–42 Shogunal order that any approaching Western ships, apart from Dutch ones, should be fired upon.
HTMS Tachin was a Royal Thai Navy sloop and training ship, built by the Uraga Dock Company in Japan.
On 9 February 1860 (18 January in Japanese calendar), the Kanrin Maru, sailed by Katsu Kaishū (as ship captain), John Manjiro, Fukuzawa Yukichi, altogether 96 Japanese sailors, and the American officer John M. Brooke, left Uraga for San Francisco.
Otokichi is known to have returned to Japan twice, first as a translator on board HMS Mariner, which entered Uraga Port in 1849 to conduct a topographical survey.
A license agreement was signed in 1991 to build up to 12 Sparvieros, with the first two approved in FY90 and both were laid down by Sumitomo in Uraga on 25 March 1991.
