In December 2006 Clinton Arena hosted the first annual "Hockey town" event between Hamilton College and Utica College.
She dual majored in biology and chemistry at Utica College, but chose to not complete her degree, citing the stress of being a full-time student and holding down a full-time job.
Teams are known as the Pioneers and compete in the Empire 8 Athletic Conference along with Elmira, Alfred, Hartwick, Ithaca, Nazareth, Stevens Institute of Technology and St. John Fisher.

Eugene Paul Nassar (born 20 June 1935), Professor of English Emeritus of Utica College, Utica, New York, is the author of several books of literary criticism in the close analysis tradition of his teachers, John Crowe Ransom at Kenyon College, Christopher Ricks at Oxford University, Arthur Mizener of Cornell University, and his critical model and mentor, Cleanth Brooks.
St. John Fisher College is a founding member of the Empire 8 Athletic Association and competes with other full member schools: Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College, Ithaca College, Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Utica College.
Following his graduation from Utica College in New York, Roye spent eight years (1978–86) as the sports director at Utica's WIBX–WNYZ radio.
