He was first married to Walburgis (d. 1177), daughter of Valdemar I of Denmark and later to Anastasia, daughter of Mieszko III of Poland and Eudoxia of Kiev.
St. Canute's bones were moved into a new chapel in the priory church at Ringsted in 1157 with the approval of St Canute's son, Valdemar I.
