Gilbert's film and photography have been exhibited by the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, the Western Front, and the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver).
In November 2007, the gallery announced plans to move to a new building at Larwill Park, a block formerly occupied by a bus depot on the corner of Cambie and Georgia streets opposite the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The Gallery connects to the rest of the complex via an underground passage below Robson Street to an outdoor plaza, restaurants, the University of British Columbia's downtown satellite campus, government offices, and the new Law Courts at the southern end.

The steps on both the Robson Street and Georgia Street sides of the building are popular gathering spots for protest rallies.

Her works have been shown in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Haags Gementemuseum, the Vancouver Art Gallery, National Academy Museum, and Museo Tamayo.
Althoff has been the subject of solo exhibitions worldwide, including at the Vancouver Art Gallery; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Kunsthalle Zürich; and Simultanhalle, Cologne.
Since his retirement from the Royal British Columbia Museum, Macnair has been as active as ever and has curated exhibits for the Vancouver Art Gallery, The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the National Museum of the American Indian.
