As of the 2006 Vassa, her 10th "rain" (a traditional Pali term for the annual three-month retreat during rainy season) after taking higher ordination, she is eligible to be called Ajahn, the Thai veneration for senior monastics who teach.

Born Maung Shwe in a village called Hsaisu near Thonze in Tharrawaddy District, British Burma, Kyaw Zaw was educated in the traditional manner, mainly in monastic schools often becoming a novice monk during the Buddhist lent, until the final year when he went to the Pazundaung Municipal High School in Rangoon.
In 2000, he won actor of the year award for his portrayal of Pip in 'Great Expectations' at the Vassa Theatre in Stockholm, and has also designed and directed several international tours including 'The Big Day' in Sofia, Qatar and Dubai as well as Educating Rita in Kuala Lumpur.
