House of Drăculești

The line of the Drăculeşti began with Vlad II Dracul, one of the sons of one of the most important rulers of the Basarab dynasty, Mircea cel Bătrân.

The name Drăculeşti is derived from the membership of Vlad II Dracul, "the Dragon," in the Order of the Dragon (founded 1408).

Hunedoara

Vlad Dracul, the ruler of Wallachia, the father of the notorious Vlad Dracula, was imprisoned here, as he had fallen into disgrace with Hunyadi, not providing the help promised.

Vlad II Dracul

Mircea II ascended to the throne in 1442, as Vlad Dracul was in the Ottoman court negotiating for support from the Ottomans in an effort to better defend his rule against John Hunyadi, the voivode of Transylvania.

Following the battle of Marosszentimre (Romanian Sântimbru) in 1442, Hunyadi forcefully entered Wallachia and forced Dracul to submit.
