Sheens worked as a conditioner at Eastern Suburbs and Cronulla Sutherland and later was a lower grade coach at the Western Reds.
News decided to close the Hunter Mariners and the financially ruined Western Reds, who were $10million in debt at the end of 1997, while the ARL decided to close down the South Queensland Crushers, who were also in severe financial trouble.

Potter retired at the end of the 1993 season but signed to play for one of the four new teams introduced for the 1995 season, the Western Reds, going on to play 21 games for the Perth based team before retiring for good at the end of the 1996 ARL season.
