The company was created by Wally Byam, a lawyer by training, who began building trailers out of Masonite in his backyard in Los Angeles during the late 1920s.
In July 1952, the lease was signed for a facility in Jackson Center, Ohio, to serve the eastern market.

Founded in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1955, the club is still in existence today, with more than 6,000 member families.
