The 1963 League final against Tipperary – the ‘Home’ final as the winners were due to meet New York for the title proper – was much closer, with Waterford winning a thrilling match by 2-15 (21) to 4-7.

Shanahan was further rewarded by being named undisputed Hurler of the Year.


Ger Loughnane

The replayed Munster final against Waterford was played in an extremely poor spirit with Colin Lynch of Clare and Michael White of Waterford being sent-off after a huge melee.

Séamus Harnedy

Harnedy's mother, Cathy Landers, was an All-Ireland-winning captain with the Cork camogie team, while his father, Seán Harnedy, played with the Waterford team.
