Founded as the Wellington Jockey Club in 1854, the first race meetings held by the club were at Hutt Park in 1854 and at Burnham Water on the Miramar Peninsula.

In 1994, the Club leased part of its former properties to Hutt International Boys' School.

The Wellington Racing Club (WRC) is a racing horse racing club based in Trentham, Wellington, New Zealand.

The suburb is home to the Trentham Racecourse, the base of the Wellington Racing Club (WRC), the site of Hutt International Boys' School and is also the site of the Trentham Military Camp, which was used extensively for training soldiers in preparation for World War I and is still a base for the NZ Army and Defence Force.
