Altamont Pass

Of the two railroad lines through the old pass, one is still in use: the original Western Pacific line now owned by Union Pacific.

Beckwourth Pass

In 1906, the Chilcoot Tunnel was constructed beneath Beckwourth Pass by the Western Pacific Railroad as part of its Feather River Route.

Six Companies, Inc.

The Western Pacific Railroad purchased several of the Six Companies dump cars for company service after the dam was completed and the equipment declared surplus.

Southern Pacific 4460

Southern Pacific re-designed the engine for general service and it was finally approved, but the government took four of them and gave them to the smaller and power-starved Western Pacific Railroad.


Deep Creek Railroad

Supported by a group of investors that included Utah Senator Reed Smoot and the president of the Western Pacific Railroad, planning for the new railway began in 1916, and it was constructed the following year.
