Fujiko

Fujiko is a Japanese feminine given name, usually derived from 藤 (Fuji), which means "Wisteria", and the suffix 子 (-ko), which means "child" or "child of".

Fujisaki Hachiman-gū

The word Fuji derives from a tale that at the time of establishment, sticking of fuji resulted in fuji Wisteria taking root and grew.

Isola Madre

Particularly prized is the scala dei morti, or staircase of the dead, which in recent decades has been embellished with an important collection of Wisterias.

Note that there are a small number of counterexamples, e.g., あひる "duck", pronounced ahiru rather than airu, or ふぢはら, pronounced Fujiwara, despite being a compound of Fuji (Wisteria) + hara (field).

Wake, Okayama

The town is famous in the region for the 'Wamojiyaki' festival that takes place every year on August 15th during the Obon period, and the town is also home to the largest Wisteria park in Japan.
