During peak holiday periods such as Golden Week, Obon, and New Year, the rapid service Abukuma makes a single round-trip with a 2-car train.
Major festivals are Obon (every July), Nikkei Matsuri (every spring) and Aki Matsuri (every fall) and a newer festival, The Spirit of Japantown Festival (also in the fall).
Some of his stories have been adapted by Ping Chong into his puppet theatre, including the 1999 Kwaidan and the 2002 OBON: Tales of Moonlight and Rain.
Recent productions have included several large scale puppet theatre works, Cathay: Three Tales of China (2005), Obon: Tales of Rain and Moonlight (2002), and Kwaidan (1998).
The town is famous in the region for the 'Wamojiyaki' festival that takes place every year on August 15th during the Obon period, and the town is also home to the largest Wisteria park in Japan.
