Lord Home has been married since 1972 to Jane Margaret Williams-Wynne (born 1949), of the Williams-Wynn baronet family.
He succeeded his cousin Sir Richard Wynn, 4th Baronet as a baronet in 1674 but did not inherit the Gwydyr Estate, which passed to his predecessor's daughter Mary.
•
On his death the Wynn baronetcy became extinct and the ancient House of Aberffraw (which claimed direct descent from Rhodri Mawr ap Merfyn in the late 9th century and through him to the legendary line of Brutus) was left without known male issue.
His direct ancestors, the Williams family, were an important parliamentary and landowning family from Denbighshire, north Wales, who in the 17th Century married into the famous Wynn family of Gwydir, the direct patrilineal descendants of Owain Gwynedd, Prince of Gwynedd 1137–1170, and the only surviving branch of that dynasty.
In 1949, at the age of eighty-seven, he inherited the Williams-Wynn Baronetcy and estates from a cousin, Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, 8th Baronet (1891–1949).
•
The Williams-Wynn baronets were an important family of Denbighshire landowners, whose 17th century ancestor had married into the Wynn family of Gwydir, the patrilineal descendants of Owain Gwynedd, Prince of Gwynedd (1137–1170), and in time they became the senior surviving branch of his family.
Today, the family is represented by Sir David, 11th Baronet, who remains active in Welsh life in Denbighshire and Flintshire.
•
Through primogeniture, Sir David Williams-Wynn, 11th Baronet, may be heir to the Aberffraw legacy and claim as princes of Wales, and could theoretically use the appellation "Dafydd III of Wales".

In the past, some Plaid Cymru members have advocated that an independent Wales would be better served by a Welsh constitutional monarchy, one which would engender the affection and allegiance of the Welsh people and legitimize Welsh sovereignty.
