Allied Areas: The allied areas include management accounting, financial management and electives like accounting standards, forensic accounting, management control systems and business analysis and valuation.
Courses include chemistry, biology, marine biology, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, Spanish, French, Latin, Mandarin, world history, American history, economics and English, various AP courses, and various electives in each category.
The school offers various standard courses in the areas of English (aka. Writing, or Literature), Math (such as Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, Trigonometry, et cetera), Science, (such as Biology or Chemistry), Social or Global Studies (with areas such as World History, US History, and Humanities), Physical Education and Health, as well as electives such as "Band", "Art", or "Choir".
In addition, a wide range of electives, including courses on technology, religion and politics (including, recently, political Islam), the Supreme Court and African-American political thought, are available to allow students to pursue more specialized interests relevant to the general concerns of the field.
Ligon also has electives that can be as specific as Flash software and Visual Basic programming.
Semester- and year-long electives offered include foreign language, ASB, drama, art, ceramics, woodshop, music (band and orchestra), filmmaking, Green Team, Shakespeare, and computer arts and graphics.
