In North America, its breeding range lies along the Saint Lawrence River, through the Great Lakes, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Dakotas, south to Kansas, west to California, and along coastal Pacific Canada and southern coastal Alaska.
Birds that have natural habitat to watch for in the park are Shovelers, Gadwall, Wigeon, Ring-necks, Bufflehead, Redhead, Scaup, Ruddy's, Pintail, Pied-billed grebes, Snow Geese, Canada Goose, and herons.
White-tailed eagle, Greylag goose, barnacle goose, black-throated diver, red-breasted merganser and gadwall are less common, and some of these latter are endangered in the Mälaren area.
