The main area is made up of 68 terraces and planted with spices crops like clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, and vanilla and fruits like mangosteen, jack, durain, litchi, longsal, carambola, grape fruits, rose apple and mango.
White is the natural color of woven cotton fabrics, while red is one of the earliest natural dye discovered by native acquired from the teak leafs, the flowers of Averrhoa bilimbi or the skin of mangosteen fruits.
Another account suggests the name derives from the word batuan, a mangosteen-related fruit common in Mindanao.
The 16 different fruit trees that can be found in the trail are Mangosteen Tree, Ordeal Tree, Custard Apple, Pomelo, Lime, Weeping Tea Tree, Island Lychee, Mango, Pond Apple Tree, Asam Tree, Java Olive Tree, Elephant Apple, Fish Killer Tree, Starfruit, Pig's Mango and Wine Palm.
