2 unusual facts about radiography

Masud Gharahkhani

After attending local Rosthaug senior high school, he enrolled at Gjøvik University College studying Radiography, graduating as a Radiologic technologist, and has been employed by Blefjell Hospital in its Kongsberg and Rjukan wards.

Radiography

In January 1896, on reading of Röntgen's discovery, Frank Austin of Dartmouth College tested all of the discharge tubes in the physics laboratory and found that only the Pulyui tube produced X-rays.

Commonly used gamma-emitting isotopes

Many years ago radium-226 and radon-222 sources were used as gamma-ray sources for industrial radiography: for instance a radon-222 source was used to examine the mechanisms inside an unexploded V-1 flying bomb, while some of the early Bathyspheres could be examined using radium-226 to check for cracks.

Cone beam computed tomography

As a 3D rendition, CBCT offers an undistorted view of the dentition that can be used to accurately visualize both erupted and non-erupted teeth, tooth root orientation and anomalous structures that conventional 2D radiography cannot.

Karyn Paluzzano

Paluzzano was awarded a Master of Education by Nepean College of Advanced Education (now the University of Western Sydney), a Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching (Distinction), and an Associate Diploma in Medical Radiography.

Kirkland and District Hospital

Departmental laboratories include haematology, chemistry, blood bank and cryogenics sections and referred out microbiology, cytology and pathology services as well as diagnostic services including echocardiography, pulmonary function testing, exercise stress testing, radiography, mammography, ultrasound, doppler facilities and fetal monitoring capabilities.

Mano Wijeyeratne

Mano Wijeyeratne had three children Subodhana (a MA graduate in History from Cambridge University and Japanese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, UK), Varanusha (died at an early age), and Hasitha (a BSc graduate in Diagnostic Radiography from the University of Hertfordshire, UK).

Manuel de Abreu

Abreu's ideas for a new mass screening radiography apparatus was made true by the construction of a first device by the Lohner House, a representative of Siemens in Rio de Janeiro.

Neutron imaging

The first demonstration of neutron radiography was made by Hartmut Kallmann and E. Kuhn in the late nineteen thirties; they discovered that upon bombardment with neutrons, some materials emitted radiation that could expose film.

Nuclear and radiation accidents

In Cochabamba a defective gamma radiography set was transported in a passenger bus as cargo.

Ronald G. Beckett

Following the initial work in the Cardiopulmonary Sciences laboratory, Beckett began to apply endoscopy in concert with radiography on the Max Uhle collection of mummies from Pachacamac Peru at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Salisbury District Hospital

The hospital has strong links to Bournemouth University for the practical education of advanced diploma and degree level student nurses; as well as providing a training location for students of radiography and physiotherapy from the University of the West of England.
