Al Bertino

In a 1945 Disney short, Hockey Homicide, all the characters are named for members of the Disney staff including "Ice Box Bertino", who, as a running gag, repeatedly gets into hockey fights with "Fearless Ferguson" (named for Norman Ferguson)

Azusa Civic Center

A popular running gag on the long-running radio comedy The Jack Benny Program involved a train caller, voiced by Mel Blanc, calling out, "Train leaving on Track Five for Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga." The gag, which also continued on Jack Benny's television program, brought national attention to the three cities.

Finagle's law

Eventually the term "Finagle's law" was popularized by science fiction author Larry Niven in several stories depicting a frontier culture of asteroid miners; this "Belter" culture professed a religion and/or running joke involving the worship of the dread god Finagle and his mad prophet Murphy.

Emilia Golightly

One such running gag was that Golightly had abducted Irish singer/songwriter Enya and was holding her captive around the house.

Klopman diamond

A running gag in the Marx Brothers films was for Harpo Marx's character to be carrying any given item at any given time, and to produce it at will.

A running gag has Buckwheat attempting to recite "Little Jack Horner" (unannounced), as Spanky tries to keep him offstage.

A running gag in The Venture Bros. episode "Hate Floats" is that Dr. Venture wants to buy his son a speed suit for his birthday.

The Foretelling

Richard asks his eldest (and favourite) son, Lord Harry Plantagenet, Earl of March, for his younger son's name, but mistakenly calls him "Edna", starting a long-running gag throughout the series.

Think the Unthinkable

A running gag is that he usually describes the consultancy process with a metaphor that leads to an inadvertent insult to himself (for example: “Imagine you are square pegs and we are round holes. Try to think of me as a round hole”).

Tube Bar prank calls

Animator Matt Groening obtained a copy and incorporated the phone hijinks into a running gag on The Simpsons with barkeeper Moe Szyslak, who is based on Deutsch.
