The image of Our Lady of Light has disappeared from the facade, leaving only curtain-like decoration supported by angels and images of Joachem and Saint Anne, along with Saints Peter and Paul.
The name is derived from those of the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne.
In the sixteenth century Ambrosio de Morales discovered a manuscript titled "Many Genealogies of the Scripture until Our Lady and Saint Anne", a genealogy of the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne ascribed to Pelagius, in the cathedral library of Oviedo.
There are several landmarks in the village, including Catholic Saint Anne Church and Lutheran Resurrection of the Lord Church.
The parish is named after Saint Anne, the grandmother of Jesus and established in 1959 by the Diocese of Tabasco .

Joachim and Anna (9 September—the day after the Nativity of the Theotokos)
Its 14 pages include contain the text of the Book of Hours shortened and simplified as an elementary reading book or primer, along with 2 two full-page miniature paintings (the first showing Claude kneeling before her patron saint Claudius of Besançon, with saint Anne and the Virgin Mary in the right background, and the second showing St Claudius presenting Claude to Saint Anne and the Virgin Mary) and 37 smaller miniatures.
In later Christian traditions it is believed to be the birthplace of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where Saints Anna and Joachim once resided.

They built a fortress and watchtower atop the hill, overlooking Saffuriya, and dedicated it to Anne and Joachim, the parents of the Virgin Mary.
The main altar is from the first half of the 19th century and the church also has a painting of Saint Anne by Josip Egartner.
